NEW YORK — The acclaimed Greek musician Giorgos Kakosaios spoke with The National Herald in New York about his latest album, music career and excitement while on his U.S. and Canada tour.
‘Οσο ποιο κοντα, τοσο το καλύτερο – The closer, the better!’
The talented, Athens-born, Greek singer, composer, and performer touched down in the U.S. as part of his first-ever North America tour in New York on Friday, September 19. The popular Greek artist has already performed to a full house at Melrose Ballroom, located at 36-08 33rd Street, Long Island City on September 20. This New York performance marked the first of his eight shows while on his North America tour with Opa Productions, one of North America’s leading Greek entertainment companies.
Kakosaios will be performing alongside the popular female Greek singer Aspa, and the upcoming young star Emily Lyberopoulou, and heading to Los Angeles on September 26, Vancouver, on September 27, Montreal, on October 3, Detroit, on October 4, Toronto, on October 10, Chicago, on October 11, and to Boston, on October 12.
In an interview with The National Herald, the Greek singer revealed how he felt about performing in New York last weekend. “It was wonderful. I had such a great time with the audience and I hope they enjoyed it just as much as I did,” Kakosaios told TNH. “I hope I made the audience feel beautiful, to be able to get up, dance, and have a good time – as that was my main goal.”

Whilst on his first-ever North America tour, Kakosaios explained how it was always a dream of his to take his talents to America and Canada.
“Ever since I was a child, I used to see my father doing tours, and I used to say, at some point, I want to experience this too – and finally, that time has come,” he said.
Known for his many hit songs including ‘Min Tis Peite’, ‘Tetoia Ora Tetoia Logia’, ‘Kane Mas Tin Hari’, ‘Savvato Vradi’ and ‘Erotas Moiazei’, the Greek singer is most known for having his guitar in hand and composing his own music, as a multi-talented artist in the Greek music scene.
He is also recognized for being son to the famous Greek singer Giannis Ploutarchos, and brother to Katerina, another up-and-coming, gifted artist.
While he was born into a musically-gifted family, throughout his life, Kakosaios worked hard to get to where he is today, with his father guiding him through the entertainment world.
At only 25 years old, he expressed how he felt to have achieved so much so early in his career, including performing all over the globe, in places like Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, in Cyprus, and all over Greece.
“Look, personally, I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished a lot – I just feel like I’m just on a very exciting path in my career, and I still have a long way to go to achieve the things I want to achieve,” Kakosaios said.
“But what makes me happy is that I see people embracing my songs and giving me love, and I’m trying to reciprocate that tenfold.”
From a young child, the Greek singer was always singing. He described what it was that he loves most about following in his father’s footsteps and pursuing music. “What I really like about my job is the contact with the people, and the creative process, because I’m a composer and I write my own songs,” Kakosaios expressed.
“I also really like to see the people, and have a beautiful time while I’m on the stage, it just fills me up.”

Kakosaios most recently released his debut album – ‘Mathe ton Erota – Μάθε Μου Τον Έρωτα’ on June 20, which consists of 14 songs.
He expressed how he felt to finally see it released after years in the making, adding how some songs were composed six years ago, and others, two weeks before the album was released.
“I’m very happy, because it’s my first work, and it was my dream, of course, at some point, to release an album,” he said. “I hope that people will embrace it, like they do with all my other songs.”
When asked about his inspiration when it comes to making music, Kakosaios said several things play a role.
“My inspiration stems from many things, certainly from situations that I go through with people, with people I am my close to and with my relationships. And no matter how dramatic it sounds, I like it when it rains, when I play my guitar – it sounds a little melancholic, when I put it like that, but in general, these are the main sources of inspiration.”
With several shows still remaining as part of his North America tour, Kakosaios spoke about what people can expect to experience at his shows.
“Audiences can expect to have a really great time and a lot of fun, with plenty of dancing,” he added.
“They will dance tsifteteli, they will dance zembekiko, they will be reminded of Greece, and they will enjoy it, that’s for sure – I can’t wait to see them up close.”
