Greek Super League newbie Carles Perez has been taken to hospital as the result of a dog bite to his genitals.
The former Barcelona winger had just moved to Aris, on loan from Celta Vigo, when the incident occurred.
The club confirmed the news in a brief statement on their website.
“According to the test results, Carles Perez suffered a soft tissue infection from a dog bite,” they wrote.
However, media reports have gone into further gruesome depth.
Leading Greek outlet Ethnos claim the injury is a lactation to the player’s genitals and he will likely need surgery.
The incident occurred when the 27-year-old was walking his dog in Thermi where he lives in Greece when it was attacked by another dog.
Ethnos then explain: “Perez, in his attempt to separate the two animals, was attacked by the other dog, resulting in a deep gash in his genitals.”
They also add that Perez will miss Thursday’s match against Azerbaijani side Araz FK where they are attempting to overturn a 2-1 deficit in the third qualifying round of the Conference League.
Furthermore, ‘Aris reserves all its legal rights against the owner of the attacking dog’.
Who is Carles Perez?
The Catalan born attacker played at Barca’s La Masia academy before breaking into the first team under Ernesto Valverde in 2019.
He notched a decent two goals in 13 games before an initial loan and then permanent transfer to Roma where he continued to impress with eight goals in 76 matches.
Returning back to Spain in 2022, again on loan, he impressed enough at Celta who paid a sizable £4.5million by the Galician’s standards to keep him permanently.
However, he was then embroiled in some drama by an unlikely source – Gary Neville.
After an impressive first season with Celta, new manager and former Premier League regular Rafael Benitez turfed him out of the team.
Benitez, though, only lasted ten months in the role, his last job in management.
When asked about what when wrong on Neville’s The Overlap, he said: “Now they’re doing exactly what I told them to.
“If you look at the players they’re getting rid of, they’re exactly the ones I told them to, but now with a different coach.”
Perez was considered to be one of those players he was referencing, and was asked about the comments after being shipped out on loan to Getafe.
“I’m simply going to say that actions speak louder than words,” he responded with an awkward laugh.
The winger staged another decent season at Getafe, scoring three times in 30 games as a regular, but has again been sent on loan by parent club Celta to Aris who he’s played for just once before the dog bite occurred.
