BASEL- Greece has successfully advanced to the Grand Final of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, following a standout performance by Klavdia in Thursday night’s Second Semi-Final. Performing the song “Asteromata,” Klavdia captivated both the audience and viewers across Europe with her powerful vocals and visually compelling staging.
The staging, directed by renowned choreographer Fokas Evangelinos, was met with widespread acclaim. As presenter Giorgos Kapoutzidis noted at the start of the live broadcast, this was “the Semi-Final of our Hearts.” The performance received a rapturous reception from the crowd at Basel’s St. Jakobshalle arena and sparked a wave of praise on social media.

Klavdia was joined on stage by Christina Kaliakatsou, while a highly skilled creative team contributed to the final presentation: Christos Magganas (video artist), Deux Hommes (fashion design), Giannis Mourikis (set design), and Giorgos Tellos (lighting design). Christos Nikolaou supported Fokas Evangelinos in the show’s artistic direction.
Asteromata, composed by Arcade and Klavdia with lyrics by Arcade, was brought to life through a deeply symbolic performance. Themes of loss and personal transformation took center stage, with Klavdia’s movement toward a rock formation representing a solitary journey toward the light. A striking projection of the Caryatid statue provided one of the evening’s most iconic moments, while the finale—marked by a dramatic lighting shift and the revealing of a white gown—delivered a powerful message of rebirth and new beginnings.

Sixteen countries competed for one of ten coveted spots in Saturday’s Grand Final. The nations that qualified alongside Greece are: Lithuania, Israel, Armenia, Denmark, Austria, Luxembourg, Finland, Latvia, and Malta.
As per tradition, last year’s winner Switzerland and the “Big Five” – Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom – have prequalified for the Grand Final.

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Saturday, May 17, and will be broadcast live in Greece via ERT1, Second Programme 103.7 on the radio, and digitally through ERTFLIX’s Eurovision Channel, which will also provide full interpretation in Greek Sign Language. Maria Kozakou and Giorgos Kapoutzidis will once again handle live commentary, while actress and presenter Jenny Theona will announce the Greek jury’s 12 points.
