Greek pole vault sensation Emmanouil Karalis stunned the sport on Saturday clearing 6.17 meters at the National Indoor Track and Field Championships in Paiania.
Karalis thrashed his own national record, registering not only by far the best Greek effort indoors or outdoors, but also the world leading jump so far this year and the best one ever after those of recordman Mondo Duplantis.
Fans at Paiania were amazed to see the ease with which Karalis beat the bar at his second attempt, having previously also cleared 6.07m.
As Karalis himself revealed on Instagram, pole vault legend Sergey Bubka called him to congratulate him, now that Karalis has got an even better recoird than his.
