The Saint Francis E-sports team expanded its offerings this semester, adding Marvel Rivals to its list of competitive games.
Marvel Rivals is a team-based, hero-shooter game similar to Overwatch.
“We added Marvel Rivals as another of our major games, with a full team and subs,” said SFU E-sports Coordinator Ethan Wingard.
The SFU Marvel Rivals team is currently undefeated in its division, and is one of several Red Flash teams that are enjoying successful seasons this fall.
The Smash Red Team has delivered strong performances in two leagues and qualified for the playoffs. Like Marvel Rivals, Smash Red is also undefeated in its league.
The University’s Madden Team had three out of its four players qualify for the upcoming playoffs. Several secured high seeds entering the postseason.
The E-sports program had more teams reach the playoffs this fall than ever before.
“I’m proud of all the players,” said Wingard.
The program is always looking to create new opportunities for SFU gamers.
“Someone mentioned that there’s a first collegiate Clash Royale team,” said Wingard, noting that this possibility will be explored.
SFU E-sports member Ben Haslett pushed the idea of launching the Marvel Rivals Team.
E-sports graduate assistant Carmen Lefoer has also been instrumental in the program’s growth. He recently secured spots for SFU’s Smash Team in several local tournaments.
