On November 30, Greece inaugurated its first driverless metro line, connecting 13 stations in Thessaloniki. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the modernization of the country’s urban transport infrastructure. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The new metro line operates with modern Hitachi Rail trains, each accommodating 450 passengers and reaching speeds of 105 km/h. This technology ensures high efficiency and a seamless commuting experience for all passengers.
Future Expansion of the Driverless Metro in Greece
Plans for the metro’s expansion include 4.8 additional kilometers of tracks and five new stations. This development will link Thessaloniki’s city center with the local airport, enhancing connectivity and accessibility.

The project uses 18 state-of-the-art Hitachi Rail trains manufactured in Italy, with contracts for 15 more trains in progress.
