Destination Dupes For Your Next Trip

Tired of squeezing through crowds at hot tourist spots and paying a premium to be there? You’re not alone.

That’s why lesser-known “destination dupes” have become a popular approach for travelers seeking a more relaxing, affordable and authentic vacation experience.

“While iconic cities will always draw crowds, more travelers are looking for alternatives to the world’s most popular ― and often pricey and overcrowded ― destinations,” Sarah Dines, chief commercial officer at the tour booking platform Viator, told HuffPost.

She noted that the company’s data shows surging interest in under-the-radar gems that offer a more personal feel, along with the qualities that make more popular destinations so sought after.

“Destination dupes aren’t duplicates, but do offer similar experiences, landscapes or cultural vibes, allowing travelers to avoid crowds and save money while still enjoying a memorable trip,” said Melanie Fish, a travel expert with Expedia.
