Tonight, Denmark takes center stage to select its representative for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Basel, Switzerland!
Of course, the selection will take place through the iconic DMGP (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix), and Denmark is determined to reclaim its spot at the top. The stakes are high, as the country hasn’t qualified for a Eurovision Final since 2019, when Leonora’s “Love Is Forever” landed in twelfth place!
DMGP 2025!
Tonight’s DMGP final takes place in Herning, a city located in the heart of Denmark. Founded in the early 1790s, Herning quickly became a commercial hub, largely thanks to the booming textile industry in the region. Today, the city boasts a more diversified industrial base and has earned the prestigious title of ‘City of the Year’ in Denmark twice. The iconic Jyske Bank Boxen has been chosen as the venue for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025, promising an unforgettable night of music and excitement.

It’s also worth noting that Jyske Bank Boxen was initially considered as the venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, before the event was ultimately awarded to B&W Hallerne, Refshaleøen in Copenhagen. This impressive indoor arena, with a seating capacity of 12,500, has hosted numerous high-profile events, including the European Women’s Handball Championship (2010), the European Short Course Swimming Championship (2013), the European Men’s Handball Championship (2014), the Men’s Handball World Championship (2019), the European Women’s Handball Championship (2020), and the Women’s Handball World Championship (2023).
According to DMGP’s artistic director, Erik Struve Hansen, the songs of DMGP25 are clearly oriented towards the modern era of Eurovision.
“The songs for this year’s DMGP have been crafted with the upcoming competition in mind, setting the stage for an unforgettable night. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is a true celebration of Danish music and tradition, uniting the entire country across all generations. Last year, over a million Danes tuned in to watch DMGP, proving that the show continues to captivate a massive audience nationwide! We’re excited to bring you a national final on March 1st that will highlight the very best of this year’s eight talented artists!“
The 8 finalists!

Adel the Second – ‘The Unluckiest Boy Alive’
Adel the Second will compete in DMGP 2025 with the song “The Unluckiest Boy Alive.” Although the title suggests misfortune, he makes it clear that the song has a sarcastic tone, capturing the human tendency to feel – even momentarily – like the unluckiest people in the world. Adel the Second has been writing music since childhood, having composed his first song at the age of just ten. As a teenager, he decided that he would follow his dream of becoming a singer and now, with his participation in DMGP, he is taking an important step in this direction. With “The Unluckiest Boy Alive”, he aspires to showcase his unique style and prove that he has his place in the Danish music scene.
Andreas Kruse – ‘Hear My Prayer’
Andreas Kruse made his first big break in the music industry in 2018, when he won the X Factor as part of the band Place on Earth. Now, he’s making a comeback by participating in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song “Hear My Prayer.” The song, which he co-wrote with Malthe August, Rasmus ‘Majalle’ Olsen and Linda Dale, is, according to him, perfect for Eurovision. Andreas Kruse emphasizes that he has put his own stamp on the song, which expresses a sense of desperation towards something bigger than ourselves, acting as a collective echo of our personal struggles. His big dream? To touch the audience and win the ticket to Basel!
Max Ulver – ‘Supernova’
Max Ulver already has a successful career as a songwriter and producer, but now it’s time for him to step into the spotlight. With his song “Supernova,” he’s competing in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025, ready to prove to himself what a solo artist can achieve. His big breakthrough came in 2020, when he co-wrote the song “Lover” for Chinese superstar KUN. “Lover” went straight to #1 on the Chinese charts. Since then, he’s scored several number one hits in Asia and has collaborated with artists like Christopher, Daniel Schulz, and Barbara Moleko. Now, though, it’s time for him to step into the spotlight himself. “Supernova,” which he wrote with hitmakers Remee, Frederik, and Fridolin Nordsø, is inspired by a unique moment when he saw a special woman.
“The song is about meeting the perfect person for you. I remember the second I saw her – she lit up the whole room! It was pure magic !”
Hervé Toure – ‘Allez Allez’
Singer, songwriter and multi-talented Hervé Toure is competing in the DMGP 2025 with the song “Allez Allez”, a hymn to willpower and the ability to determine our destiny. Despite the French title, “Allez Allez” is the only song this year to be performed in Danish. Hervé draws inspiration from his own life, as in 1988 his family left Côte d’Ivoire and traveled through various European countries before settling in Denmark.
“ I am not bound by nationality. I am proud of my roots, but I also feel Danish. In fact, I can feel at home anywhere in the world.”
In addition to music, Hervé Toure was a professional footballer in the French 3rd division, and has also distinguished himself as an actor. In 2022, he starred in the film “Vågn op med Danmark”, which won the Audience Award at the Ekkos Shortlist Awards, while in 2023 he participated in the play “Arven”, which was awarded the Reumert Prize.
Maria Mathea – ‘Air’
Maria Mathea is a talented singer and songwriter from Sweden, with extensive experience in the Eurovision Song Contest, both as a composer and as a backing vocalist. In 2023, she signed the Polish song “Solo”, with which BLANKA represented Poland. Now, Maria, for the first time, aspires to take the Eurovision microphone as a main artist, performing the ballad “Air”. The song is an emotional story about a destructive relationship, full of passions and inner struggles, and reflects her personal journey and love for music. Her goal is for her song to touch the hearts of the audience and make an impression on the Eurovision stage.
Mariya – ‘I Belong to Me’
Mariya makes her debut at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song “I Belong to Me”, which she has written in collaboration with Julie ‘Kill J’ Aagaard, Dino Medanhodzic and Jimmy Joker, who in 2023 participated in the writing of the song “Tattoo”, by Loreen, which won the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden. For Mariya, the song “I Belong to Me” is about the strength you find within yourself. She grew up in Gentofte and from a young age had dreams of music, but often faced resistance from those around her. As a teenager, she moved to Copenhagen, where she performed in bars in the city and found her place in both music and dance. Dance in particular was a defining point for her, as she learned to accept herself and her body. He has taught singing and dancing, while in 2024 he participated in “X Factor”, reaching the live shows.
Sissal – ‘Hallucination’
Sissal is participating in this year’s Grand Prix with the pop song “Hallucination”. As she says, the song “Hallucination” refers to the experience of meeting a person with whom the connection is so strong that it seems almost inexplicable. Despite not coming from a musical family, her mother recalls that Sissal started singing before she could talk, and she made her first public appearance when she was 10 years old. With her participation in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, Sissal hopes not only to create a celebration, but also to inspire viewers behind the TV.
“I hope people can relate to my music and me as a person. I want to show that you can be beautiful and healthy, even if you are not thin, and I encourage everyone to be true to themselves and their dreams.”
The song “Hallucination” is written by Malthe Johansen, Chris Chordz, Lina Spangsberg, Marcus Winther-John, Linnea Deb and Melanie-Wehbe.
Tim Schou – ‘Proud’
It’s been fourteen years since Tim Schou last performed at the DMGP. Back in 2011, his song “New Tomorrow” with the band A Friend in London led him to the Eurovision Song Contest, where he finished 5th. Now, Tim Schou is returning to the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, this time as a solo artist with the song “Proud”.
“The song is about finding pride in all that we are and all that we have been through. It is a call to accept our scars and all that has shaped us.”
“Proud” is written by Tim Schou himself, in collaboration with Joachim Ersgaard, Benjamin Rosenbohm and Emil Lei, and is a personal anthem for the newest version of himself. With his song, he aspires to remind each of us of the path we have traveled, reminding us that it is never too late to press “restart” and rediscover ourselves. This is his first participation in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix as a solo artist, but he has participated as a composer in songs for other artists in 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2024.

Presentation & Interval Acts!
Stéphanie Surrugue and Sara Bro will be the hostesses of DMGP 2025. Both of them are highly experienced television personalities who have hosted numerous major events on both Danish television and radio. The dynamic duo also made their mark at last year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix presentation, earning rave reviews for their lively and engaging presence!

“It’s a great pleasure to be back at this huge party in Denmark. The joy that surrounds DMGP is probably what many of us need in these difficult times. At the same time, it’s now a Danish and European tradition, whose cultural significance goes beyond music!“
Stephanie Surrugue
“My experience last year was magical. There is a very special atmosphere at DMGP and the best and most dedicated fans, who create a scene full of joy and sparkle. I hope the world is ready for another party with lots of good music and fun. I can’t wait to give everyone a huge giant welcome, of course with my big idol Stéphanie Surrugue.“
Sara Bro
As guest acts, Birthe Kjær, one of Denmark’s most beloved and accomplished artists, and last year’s winner of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, Saba, will be among the distinguished performers at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025. With her long career and countless successes, Birthe Kjær is expected to offer the audience a unique musical experience, while Saba, having won the hearts of the audience last year, returns to add even more sparkle to the event.

“I am very honored to be allowed to participate again this year. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix has meant a lot to me throughout the 80s, and my winning song, ‘Vi maler byen rød’ from 1989, is still one that young people stand and shout when we play at festivals, so it really meant a lot to me to be in the competition in the 80s.”
Birthe Kjær
“I thought it would be a good wrinkle on the whole thing to be allowed to perform at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix this year. Being allowed to pass on the prize and the trophy and performing is a good way to end the journey that the last year has been. It’s something I do for myself. I’m very happy to be allowed to be part of the evening. It also feels very liberating in some way.”
