The Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand (CFANZ) is a cultural and community organization that serves people of Cretan descent in Australia and New Zealand. It plays an important role in preserving and promoting Cretan heritage, culture, and traditions in the diaspora. The organization was founded to unite individuals and families with Cretan origins, foster community ties, and ensure that the Cretan identity and history are passed down to future generations.

Key activities of the CFANZ include:

  1. Cultural Preservation: The federation organizes events, festivals, and activities celebrating Cretan music, dance, cuisine, and language. These events help keep Cretan traditions alive in a foreign land and allow younger generations to connect with their cultural roots.
  2. Community Support: CFANZ offers social services and support to Cretan immigrants and their families, helping them adjust to life in Australia and New Zealand. It also assists in promoting unity and collaboration among the Cretan communities in both countries.
  3. Educational Activities: The federation often supports educational initiatives about Cretan history and culture, including organizing lectures, publications, and other informational resources to raise awareness of Crete’s rich cultural legacy.
  4. Charitable Work: The CFANZ is also involved in charitable activities, including fundraising for various causes within the Cretan community and beyond.

By acting as a central body, CFANZ helps maintain connections among Cretans living abroad and fosters a sense of solidarity, ensuring that the Cretan way of life is not lost but thrives in a new context.
