The Corfu Literary Festival 2025 is set to transform the Greek island into a hub of literature, music, and cultural discussion from 8 to 14 September. The week-long festival offers a rich programme of readings, performances, and special events designed to appeal to visitors from around the world.
The festival opens on Monday 8 September at Plous Bookshop with Earth Drama, featuring screenwriter and environmental educator David Evan Giles, poet and librettist David Harsent and playwright Jane Coyle reading new works inspired by Corfu and Greek literary traditions, followed by a Welcome Supper at Pergola Taverna.
A highlight comes on Tuesday 9 September at Mon Repos Amphitheatre, where the Jersey Arts Centre stages My Family & Other Animals – The Play, celebrating the centenary of Gerald Durrell. The performance honours Durrell’s time on Corfu and the environmental legacy of the Durrell family.
Throughout the week, events span historic venues such as The Durrells House in Kontokali Bay, Corfu Public Library, and Ionian Academy. Guests include internationally acclaimed writers, historians, and poets, with topics ranging from literary translations, family histories, and Greek art, to conservation and environmental activism. Notable speakers include Nicola Rayner, Sofka Zinovieff, Dr Lee Durrell, Simon Armitage, and A.E. Stallings.
Festival-goers can also enjoy interactive and cultural experiences, from a cricket match in Corfu Town’s UNESCO-listed square to traditional Greek supper and dance evenings. Art lovers are invited to explore talks on Corfu’s influence on painters from John Singer-Sargent to contemporary artists.
The Corfu Literary Festival is committed to making Greek culture accessible to international audiences, highlighting both the island’s historic charm and its ongoing role in literature, conservation, and the arts.
