Concert Honors Mikis Theodorakis at Packed Kallimarmaro Stadium –

Athens, June 25, 2025 – Thousands filled the Kallimarmaro Stadium tonight for a concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). Titled “My Whole Life Near You,” the event featured a lineup of prominent Greek artists and a speech by KKE General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumpas.

Koutsoumpas hailed the concert as “a triumph of culture,” emphasizing Theodorakis’ lifelong commitment to social justice and his role as both an artist and activist. “What sets Theodorakis apart is his sense of duty to guide the people toward social liberation, through his art and his actions in the people’s movement,” he said.

The composer’s daughter, Margarita Theodoraki, also addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming turnout honoring her father’s legacy. Performers included Gerasimos Andreatos, Giorgos Dalaras, Maria Farantouri, and many others, delivering a moving tribute to Theodorakis’ iconic works, described as a “mural of 20th-century Greece.”

Due to the large crowd, Athens Metro extended its operating hours to accommodate attendees. Social media posts from the event, including striking images of the packed stadium, underscored the profound impact of Theodorakis’ music and activism.
