Greek cinema is entering a new era with the upcoming launch of Filmography, a comprehensive digital database designed to preserve and promote Greece’s cinematic heritage globally.
Funded by the Greek government, the platform is a collaborative effort between the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center, and the Hellenic Film Academy.

Scheduled for public release after Easter 2026, the bilingual platform (English and Greek) will first be introduced to the public on March 13 at the 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival.
While users cannot stream full movies, they gain access to an expansive repository of cinematic metadata. The initial rollout features dedicated pages for 2,016 films and 768 directors. These entries contain production credits, scripts, filming locations, and over 7,700 archival photographs.
Crucially for international audiences and festival programmers, it provides practical contact information for copyright and distribution, making it easier to trace film copies from abroad.
A significant highlight is a collection of thirty original video interviews with prominent filmmakers, conducted from April 2025 to the present.
