Church welcomes woodwind quintet

WEIRTON — Cove Presbyterian Church, located at 3404 Main St. in Weirton, will host the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s woodwind quintet at 2 p.m. Saturday. The concert is open to the community and will feature patriotic and holiday music. Admission is free. A free-will donation will be collected to benefit the Weirton Christian Center.

Soup, sandwich and pie sale set

SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Historical Society will hold a soup, sandwich and pie sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the historical building, located on Main Street in Smithfield. A variety of soups, hot sandwiches and pies will be available for dine-in or takeout, according to President Linda Kovach.

The museum will be open during the event for anyone interested in viewing the displays about the town’s history. Proceeds from the sale will go toward building maintenance. The society will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, serving coffee and pastries to those voting.

Meet-the-candidate night set

WEIRTON — A mayoral meet-the-candidate night and forum will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 300 Three Springs Drive in Weirton.

Play date for preschoolers

WELLSBURG — Parents and guardians of children 6 and younger are invited to the Brooke County Public Library between 10:30 a.m. and noon every Saturday.

Toys and games designed to promote hand-eye coordination, along with a basic understanding of science, engineering, art and math concepts, will be provided. Parents are encouraged to assist their child with toys. Volunteers will set up and take down the items. No registration is required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.

Woman’s club to meet Monday

STEUBENVILLE — The Woman’s Club of Steubenville will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at Steeple Chase Club House, located off of Lovers Lane. The club’s guest speaker will be John Boileigh of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Boileigh will begin speaking at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Philoptochos plans veteran’s luncheon

STEUBENVILLE — Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society will hold a Veterans Day luncheon for all area veterans at noon on Nov. 7. The event will take place at Hellenic Hall, located at 300 S. Fourth St. in Steubenville. Those interested in attending should RSVP to the church by Sunday. Call (740) 282-9835.

Craft class offered for adults

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold an adult craft class at 11 a.m. Nov. 7. Participants will make a paper craft and are asked to bring a glue gun. WELLSBURG — Kim Harless will lead an Explore and Learn story hour at 5 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Brooke County Public Library. The event includes a hands-on activity. Church to celebrate 105 years

WEIRTON — The Morning Star Baptist Church, located at 3124 Weir Ave. in Weirton, will celebrate its 105th anniversary at 3 p.m. Nov. 17. The Rev. George Tate, pastor of the St. James Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, along with his choir and congregation, will be the day’s guest. Leading the service will be the Rev. James E. Brown, pastor of Morning Star. The community is invited to attend.
