Chinese parliament chief meets Sakellaropoulou in Athens

President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, welcomed Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, at the presidential mansion. The meeting was part of Leji’s official visit to Greece, following an invitation by the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas.

President Sakellaropoulou underscored the deep cultural and historical heritage shared by Greece and China, noting how their ancient civilizations have traveled parallel paths through history. Both nations, she emphasized, have set exemplary standards in every facet of human achievement, fostering philosophy and the arts—hallmarks of their enduring and distinctive dialogue.

According to President Sakellaropoulou, culture presents numerous opportunities for deeper collaboration between the two nations. She also stressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Greece and China, and through the evolution into today’s strategic partnership, the two countries have consistently worked towards building a mutually beneficial relationship founded on respect for the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

Zhao Leji underscored the traditional friendship and trust between the peoples of Greece and China, pointing to their cooperation across various fields, including culture, trade, investment and technology. He expressed confidence that the bonds between the two countries will grow even stronger.
