In cooperation with Animasyros International Animation Film Festival + Agora

For the ninth consecutive year, Megaron the Athens Concert Hall is organising the Animegaron International Composition Competition, within the framework of the Bridges series, in collaboration with the Animasyros International Animation Festival + Agora.
This year, entrants are asked to compose music for the short animation ROE by Chloe Atzaka.
Each year, the large number of entries from Greece and abroad highlights the strong interest of composers — both emerging and established — in film music, and particularly in animation, a genre offering vast freedom, imagination, and creative possibility.
The primary goal of Animegaron is to serve as a platform for showcasing talented composers of music for the moving image, offering them an opportunity to engage not only with audiences but also with professionals from the world of film and music — including directors, critics, and producers.
A dedicated platform has been created on the Megaron website where this year’s selected soundtracks — as ranked by the competition jury — will be available for listening.
The Jury
- Giorgos Lazaridis, pianist, composer, Associate Professor, Department of Music Studies, University of Macedonia
- Anastasia Manou, producer
- Dimitris Maragopoulos, composer, Artistic Director of the Bridges series at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall, and Professor Emeritus, Department of Music Studies, Ionian University
- Evanthia Reboutsika, composer, violin soloist
- Nikos Xanthoulis, composer, soloist on the ancient Greek lyre and trumpet
The short film ROE by Chloe Atzaka, accompanied by the ten best compositions selected by the jury, will be featured on Megaron’s social media on the date of the online announcement of the results (29 May 2026).
From these ten finalists, the winners of Animegaron will be chosen and awarded three monetary prizes and two distinctions. They will also benefit from an extensive promotional framework, including the screening of the film with their music at the Animasyros International Festival.
Additionally, the soundtracks of the five award-winning composers will be uploaded on the Megaron website and YouTube channel.

Director’s Note
In a dreamlike world, a girl sleeps beside a spring from which water flows through the mouth of a marble panther. When the water stops, the girl wakes to see a luminous sphere appear. Instinctively, she swallows it, triggering a chain of surreal events. What follows feels like a dream — a cycle destined to repeat itself.
Inspired by dreams and the subconscious, the film seeks to convey the irrationality and discontinuity that often characterise dreams, mirroring the equally illogical nature of reality. Its circular structure reflects how experiences and memories recur and transform over time.
At its core, the film speaks about friendship and the profound relationship one has with oneself.
Closing date for entries: 17 March 2026, 17:00 (Greek time).
Watch the film, download the entry form and view Terms & Conditions of the competition here.
Please remember your music must be incorporated into the film.
