Athens – Four makeshift gas canister bombs exploded outside a car dealership in central Athens on Wednesday in what appeared to be another protest against a visit to Greece by US President Bill Clinton.
The attack damaged three cars but caused no injuries.
An anonymous caller told the Athens daily Eleftherotypia that a group calling itself Anti-State Action had planted the bombs.
The same group claimed responsibility for a November 4 attack on another Athens car dealership, saying then that it was to “welcome” Clinton to Athens.
A string of recent violent incidents and plans for mass protests has caused security in the Greek capital to be drastically stepped up ahead of Clinton’s official visit.
He is due to arrive on November 13 for a three-day visit but US officials in Washington have said the trip may be delayed. – Reuters
