Greece is getting hot and heavy. Release Athens Festival, one of Greece’s largest summer music events, is bringing the heat this year with a stacked lineup featuring Avenged Sevenfold, Gojira, Dream Theater, and Lacuna Coil.
Avenged Sevenfold will be performing in Greece for the very first time on June 7, with Palaye Royale as direct support—a must-see event for Greek fans who’ve waited years for this moment. On July 19, Grammy winners and Paris 2024 Olympics performers Gojira return for what promises to be a fiery night for all Greek metalheads, joined by the ever-powerful Lacuna Coil.
Closing out the trio of massive metal shows, Dream Theater will headline on July 23, with Mastodon providing direct support and Haken opening what’s sure to be a prog-heavy night to remember. On June 2016, Release Athens opened its doors for the first time at Plateia Nerou (Water Plaza), a beautiful, open space by the sea, just a few minutes from the city center. Since then, the festival hosted some of the biggest names of the global music scene and from a wide range of music styles: Amon Amarth, Slipknot, Anthrax, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Bullet for My Valentine, Anthrax, The Prodigy, Wu-Tang Clan, Disturbed, Judas Priest, Iggy Pop, Sepultura, Alice In Chains, New Order, Cypress Hill, Parkway Drive, Kreator, Clutch and dozens of others.
