Austria wins Eurovision 2025; Israel 2nd, Greece 6th

Austria and the performer JJ were the big winners of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, with the song “Wasted Love” edging the Israeli entry in the end. The performance marks the third time Austria has won the Eurovision contest.

The finals took place on Saturday evening in Basel, Switzerland, where 26 countries competed.

JJ, representing Austria, was crowned the winner of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Wasted Love”, which he wrote along with Teodora Špirić (Austria 2023) and Thomas Turner. The song and performance received a total of 436 points (258 points from national juries and 178 from the public viewers).

Israel’s Yuval Raphael, a survivor of the Oct. 7 October 2023 terrorist attacks, was the runner-up with ballad “New Day Will Rise”, sung in Hebrew, French and English.

In one of the negative developments of the evening’s contest, two people tried to rush the stage to disrupt her performance, with security preventing them. A man and woman were later led from the venue.
According to a spokesperson for the Swiss broadcaster organizing the event, “… the end of the Israeli performance, a man and a woman tried to get over a barrier on to the stage. They were stopped. One of the two agitators threw paint and a crew member was hit.”

As far as Greece is concerned, Klavdia, with her performance of Asteromata, came in sixth, which was judged as a success, the best national performance since 2013. The young performer collected 231 points.

Greece’s national jury gave its top “12” points to the French entry, while the popular vote from Greece went to the Albanian song, with high points also given to Estonia and Israel.
