Boasting a capacity of 4,000, Aura Festival has enlisted house and techno talent like Josh Baker, Traumer, and Francesco Del Garda for its debut.
House and techno in an awe-inspiring setting? Yes please. The first-ever Aura Festival is set to take place on May 1-2 against the backdrop of Sicily‘s Parco Archeologico di Segesta, whose historic ruins date back at least as far as the sixth century BCE.
Organizer UNLOCKED Events has also shared a no-frills lineup that emphasizes music quality over social media spectacle. On the first day, artists like Oshana, Onur Özur, and Francesco Del Garda are set to take the stage. The second will see acts like Josh Baker, Traumer, and Bartolomeo bring down the proverbial house. Altogether, the billings reflect an emphasis on house and techno, with refinement that will perfectly complement the larger-than-life setting.
“Aura was created to forge new connections between people, music, art, and places through an experience that focuses on perception,” reads a statement from UNLOCKED Events. “In an accelerating world, Aura chooses to slow down: it does not follow trends, but seeks meaning, depth, and balance. It is about electronic music dialogues with the history of Segesta, while people and their stories intertwine in a shared space.”
Aura Festival would not be the first electronic music gathering to take place at a historic site. Perhaps most notably, acts like Tiësto, Anyma, and Keinemusik have hosted events at Egypt’s Great Pyramids of Giza. And broadcasting platform Cercle’s entire model revolves around recording DJ sets in UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world.
