Athen’s Square Park to Host ‘Ta Pedia Tis Polis’ Concert This Wednesday

ASTORIA — This Wednesday, September 10, a Greek music concert is coming to Athen’s Square Park in Astoria.

Titled ‘Ta Pedia Tis Polis’ (City Greeks), the Greek band will kick off their performance from 7 PM, playing rebetika, nisiotika, laika, and more, bringing the rich sounds of traditional and urban folk Greek music to life.

The premiere Greek band is made up of a dynamic group of musicians from Queens, including Tommy Kavounidis (bouzouki, tzouras, baglamas, laouto and guitar), Dimitris Behrakis (vocals and tambourine), Eleni Greca (vocals, percussion, and spoons), George Vardaros (violin, guitar, and vocals), Nikitas Tampakis (viola, baglamas, keyboard, and vocals), David Chorowski (percussion and oud), and Erikos Vlesmas (on bass).

Together, they aim to bridge generations and cultures, and invite their audiences to dance, sing and reminisce. They are most known for their performances and guest appearances around New York City, as well as at Greek weddings, baptisms, cultural festivals, private parties, Greek nights at restaurants or lounges, or at community organizations and societies’ parties.

According to their website, Ta Pedia Tis Polis’ mission is to “cultivate a deeper appreciation for Rebetiko and other genres that reflect the soul of Greek cultural identity.”

“Projects like our public workshops are designed to share this music with new generations and create inclusive spaces where tradition is celebrated, learned, and lived,” their website revealed.

“You won’t want to miss this incredible musical concert at Athens Square Park!,” the Greek Cultural Centre said in their media release.
