The Municipality of Athens has activated emergency measures to support vulnerable citizens as temperatures drop across the city.
From today at noon (14:00), municipal services will be on high alert to provide essential aid to those in need, particularly the homeless.
Specialised “Street Work” teams will be operating around the clock, distributing hot drinks, food, blankets, and clothing while offering assistance to those who require shelter. The teams will also guide individuals to the Dormitory of the Multipurpose Homeless Centre, which is open 24/7, providing accommodation, meals, and care. Those in need of support can contact the facility directly at +30 210 5246515/6 (ext. 0).
Additionally, the Reception and Solidarity Centre of the Municipality of Athens has set up a 24-hour helpline (+30 210 5246515/6, ext. 4) for citizens to report homeless individuals in need of help. Residents are urged to provide detailed information about the location and condition of vulnerable individuals to ensure swift assistance. Reports can also be made via the municipality’s four-digit contact number, 1595 (charges vary by provider).
With freezing temperatures posing a serious risk, municipal authorities are calling on Athenians to remain vigilant and support efforts to protect those most at risk.
