Athens Metro Hours Extended Wednesday for Theodorakis Tribute


Metro services in Athens will operate on an extended schedule tonight, Wednesday, June 25, to accommodate thousands of concertgoers attending a tribute event honoring iconic Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis at the historic Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro).

The event, titled “My Whole Life With You”, marks the 100th anniversary of Theodorakis’ birth and is expected to draw large crowds. In response, metro operator STASY has announced late-night service on all three lines to facilitate safe and easy transportation after the concert.

Line 1 (Piraeus – Kifisia):

  • Last trains depart from both Piraeus and Kifisia at 01:10.
  • From Omonia: to Kifisia at 01:29, to Piraeus at 01:42.
  • From Monastiraki: to Kifisia at 01:26, to Piraeus at 01:44.

Lines 2 & 3 (Red and Blue Lines):
From Syntagma station, final departures in all directions will be at 01:20.

A Major Cultural Event at a Historic Venue

The concert at the Panathenaic Stadium begins at 8:00 PM and is organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in collaboration with the Theodorakis family. A broad lineup of well-known Greek singers will perform, including George Dalaras, Alkistis Protopsalti, Maria Farantouri, and Miltos Paschalidis.

The event also includes a speech about the life and legacy of Theodorakis, who is celebrated worldwide for his contributions to music and his role in Greece’s modern political and cultural history.

Tips for Attendees

  • Doors open at 5:30 PM. Early arrival is strongly recommended to avoid crowding.
  • Entry gates: There will be six entry points. While tickets will be available at the entrance, attendees are encouraged to secure them in advance online or through affiliated groups to ensure smooth entry.
  • Accessibility: On-site assistance and directions will be available.
  • Regulations: As the Panathenaic Stadium is an archaeological site, smoking, food, and beverages are prohibited. Water bottles and stadium-style seating cushions are allowed.
