On Friday, September 27, Athens International Airport (AIA) celebrated World Tourism Day by showcasing Greece’s cultural heritage.

As part of the airport’s “Cultural DestiNAtions” event, passengers and visitors enjoyed a journey through Greek history.

The central setting featured a traditional Greek coffee house surrounded by olive trees and aromatic plants. Guests received notebooks with authentic Greek recipes, enjoyed the traditional “Karagiozis” shadow puppet theater, and viewed an exhibition of ancient Greek technological artifacts from the Kotsana Museum.

A LED wall displayed quotes from notable Greek and international figures, while travelers participated in a quiz about Greek customs. They also had the opportunity to wear Greek costumes at a photobooth and experience the enchanting Meteora in Thessaly through virtual reality.

The event culminated with a modern rendition of the timeless syrtaki dance and provided souvenir gifts filled with Greek spirit and flavors.

This unique experience, highlighting Greek hospitality and cultural richness, was organized in collaboration with the Social Cooperative Enterprise PHELLOE.
