After a spellbinding sold-out performance beneath the dome of the National Observatory of Athens, Asterismyth now heads to the stage of the Half Note Jazz Club on Wednesday, November 26. The ensemble will present the full album Asterismyth – Music about the Constellations and Mythical Figures, along with brand-new material written especially for this cycle.

Conceived by composer and pianist Stefanos Kozanis, the project draws inspiration from Greek mythology and the night sky, weaving together jazz, classical music and Greek traditional forms with elements of narration, poetry and song. Each composition becomes a story in sound — the rise of Perseus, the tragedy of Andromeda, the vanity of Cassiopeia, and the many other celestial figures shimmering above us.
When Cosmology Met Music
Speaking to To Vima International Edition, Kozanis explains that Asterismyth has its roots in two lifelong passions.
“I have always been fascinated by the natural world — cosmology and the stars in particular,” he says. “Since childhood I felt drawn to the physical sciences. At the same time, music was the other major axis of my life, something I studied and loved from early on.”

How did this fascination evolve into a musical project?
“When the moment came to create something personal, something with a clear concept, the idea of uniting music and astronomy felt completely natural. I wanted to translate into sound the emotions I feel when looking at the night sky. Then I brought in another long-standing interest — archaeology and mythology — and suddenly the path opened to bring together elements that might seem unrelated at first.”
What connects them?
“Ultimately, everything is linked: the musical languages at the heart of Asterismyth — classical, jazz and Greek traditional music — share a common foundation in harmony; music and astronomy meet through mathematics; and mythology becomes the thread that ties people, cultures, arts and histories together. Through these connections, the project found its direction, inspiring me to write music that stands with one foot on Earth and the other among the stars.”
