Archbishop Elpidophoros of America met with Greece’s ambassador to the United States, Ekaterini Nassika, in Washington to discuss preparations for upcoming events commemorating the country’s 1821 War of Independence against Ottoman rule, observed on March 25.
During their meeting, Elpidophoros highlighted the importance of preserving the Greek language across the Atlantic, describing it as a cornerstone of national identity and a vital link to Greece’s cultural heritage.
Reaffirming his commitment to Greek education, he emphasized that schools under the Archdiocese remain a top priority of his ministry. Both sides agreed that education plays a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage among younger generations of the Greek diaspora.
As a gesture of unity, Elpidophoros presented the ambassador with an icon of Christ the Vine, a symbol of spiritual connection and continuity. [AMNA]
