Excitement, emotion, and tradition marked the annual dance of the Panarcadian Association of Melbourne and Victoria ‘Kolkotronis’, held at Loco Hall in North Melbourne.
The evening celebrated the 65th anniversary of the association’s founding, with people of all ages attending to honour its longstanding presence.
The event carried particular significance for the older members, as they saw the leadership pass to the second generation, who continue the founders’ work with dedication to heritage and tradition. The evening’s program was notably presented by two younger members, Souzi Giannia Kakalis and Nikita Chronis, representatives of the third generation of Arcadians maintaining the tradition.
A highlight of the night was the dance group led by Nikos Papaefthymiou, which brought the audience a taste of Arcadia with traditional dances and authentic songs, filling the hall with rhythm and nostalgia. The attendees also participated, bringing energy to the evening.
The president of the Panarcadian Association George Kotsirilios addressed the crowd, reflecting on the history of the association and the importance of Loco Hall to Melbourne’s Arcadian community. Founded in 1959, the association aims to strengthen the bonds of Arcadians and preserve their traditions and cultural heritage.
In 1985, the association purchased the historical building from 1914 and restored it to maintain its original architectural features.
Loco Hall, now celebrating its 100th year, continues to serve as the centre of the association’s activities, hosting events, dances, and gatherings that connect generations and keep the spirit of Arcadia alive in the heart of Melbourne.
