Antipodes Greek Festival Returns to Lonsdale Street, Melbourne

Melbourne’s two-day Greek street party returns with Greek delicacies, cooking demonstrations, a Zorba Till You Drop competition, a cocktail party and more.

Eat souvlaki, drink ouzo and dance at the 37th Antipodes Greek Festival, a two-day street party taking over Lonsdale Street once again. The city’s historic Greek precinct will be shut off to cars and make way for local and international performers, food and retail stalls, immersive cultural activities and more.

Feast on Greek delicacies like souvlaki, gyros, halloumi and loukoumades (Greek donuts) as well as other traditional sweets, as you enjoy the aroma of lamb on the spit waft in the air.

New to the festival this year will be celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, which will see chefs around the country make their take on beloved Greek dishes. This includes ex-Masterchef contestant and owner of Richmond eatry Bahari the Hellenic Plate Philip Vakos. Also new to the program will be the festival’s first-ever silent disco. Or take part in Zorba Till You Drop, the ultimate test of dance endurance, where the last one standing will win return flights to Greece.

On the music front, this year’s Saturday night headliner is leading Greek musician Rena Morfi known for her deep ballads and upbeat swing tunes. Performing on Sunday night’s main stage will include eclectic trio Xylourides, back by popular demand.

On Saturday night there’ll also be a ticketed cocktail party (with food and booze included) on a balcony overlooking the festival. Come for food from Olive and Thyme catering, plus drinks from Oakleigh distributor Hellenic Wines & Spirits.
