Angelo Skulas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, at the age of 94 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 22, 1930, in Moundsville, West Virginia to the late George and Mary (Makris) Skulas.
Angelo lived a life filled with dedication to his family, his work, his faith and his country. As a young man, Angelo valiantly served in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant in the World War II era. His commitment to service and duty was an enduring hallmark of his character. Following his military service, he pursued a successful career as a carpenter, earning respect and admiration for his craftsmanship and work ethic. In addition, Angelo served as Deputy Assessor for Marshall County from which he retired.
Angelo was a devoted member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Wheeling, West Virginia, where he served as Parish Councilman and fulfilled his calling to serve the Church in many ways. In addition, Angelo’s Greek Heritage was a great source of pride for him. His life was truly a testament to the values of love and devotion, especially evident in his unwavering commitment to his family, which was his greatest source of joy.
Angelo is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary (Makris) Skulas, and his siblings John, Nick, Bill, Manuel, and Louis Skulas, as well as Sophia Safell, Anna Lancaster and an infant sister, Barbara. Angelo is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Eugenia (Tatelia) Skulas, and his cherished children, Maria (Stephen) Copetas and Angelo Skulas, Jr. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Evyenia (Jacob) Andrews, Luke-Angelo Copetas, Achilles Copetas, Penelope Eleni Copetas, Angelo Skulas and Robin Skulas and great grandson, James Andrews, as well as two nieces, Barbara (George) Landers and Maryann (John) Lemaster and two great nieces, Lea Landers and Abbey Lemaster and great nephew Lance (Gianna) Workman who will carry forward his legacy of compassion, faith, strength, service and hardwork.
The family invites those who knew Angelo to join them for visitation on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 1 to 9 p.m., with a Trisagion Service at 8:30 p.m., at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby – Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Chapline St., Wheeling, WV with Father Demetrios Tskouris. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, WV with full Military Honors.
