The 2025 Met Gala, held last night in New York City, was a true fashion treat, celebrating black elegance and creativity under the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The theme paid homage to black dandyism and the influence of black fashion throughout history, with an emphasis on personalized tailoring and expressing identity through clothing.

Instead of the traditional red carpet, guests walked on a blue one, dotted with white and yellow daffodils.

The carpet design was created by an artist Cy Gavin, inspired by the spring flowers in front of his New York studio. In addition to the fact that daffodils symbolize the arrival of a new season, Gavin found a deeper meaning in the Greek myth of Narcissus – a moment of self-recognition.

“It’s easy not to see ourselves clearly, because the world is constantly shaping us through the mirrors of others,” Gavin told Vogue. This motif further illuminates the exhibition about black dandy identity and personal expression through fashion.
