An Evening of Art and Music at WCR Center for the Arts

From WCR Center for the Arts

The WCR Center for the Arts invites the community to enjoy an unforgettable evening of visual and musical artistry on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a Gallery Reception and Artist Meet-and-Greet featuring Kristen Heist-Albright, a Reading-based mixed-media artist. Guests can enjoy light refreshments while exploring a stunning collection of mixed media artworks blending oil, acrylic, watercolor, collage, and drawing to explore reflective spaces. The exhibition celebrates creativity, conversation, and community in an inspiring setting.

At 8 p.m., the celebration continues with “A Musical Tour of Ancient and Modern Greece,” performed by Spyros Koliavasilis, an internationally recognized musician and educator specializing in traditional Greek music. A 2025 Maryland Heritage Award recipient, Spyros is a native of Attiki, Greece, whose performances bridge centuries of musical tradition — blending Rebetika, Smyrneika, and Asia Minor influences with ethno-jazz and world music elements.

He has performed for the Library of Congress, the Greek Archdiocese, and the Embassies of Greece, Cyprus, and the European Union. In addition to performing, Spyros teaches and crafts over 20 traditional instruments at his Germantown, Maryland, studio, dedicated to preserving cultural heritage through music and craftsmanship.
