From the bustling capital of England comes Judy Pearson, who promised a feeling of being heard, empowerment and uplift with her latest single “Afterthought”.
Judy says on social media that the track was inspired by Epimetheus from Greek mythology, as the name means ‘hindsight’, further describing the lyrics as “about someone who only remembered me when life went wrong, but never when it was good”.
The artwork depicts Judy surrounded by soft colours, including a baby pink outfit and a soft blue atmosphere with specks of light and a bit of blur, which kind of nods towards the mind and maybe dream-like state when someone is thinking about something, or someone, rather.
The track itself has a short burst of euphoria and twinkle before Judy’s powerful vocals pierce through it all, it’s quite melancholic but also soothing.
The lyrics are incredibly raw and powerful, working alongside the different feels of the track, it goes through a feel of indie and pop in different tones, crafting the mood very well depending on the lyrics.
It goes through a lot of different emotions in the lyrics, she’s definitely hit the nail on the head with the self-empowerment and taking back control, but it’s also very reflective and relatable in parts, offering the best of both worlds.
The best part of the whole track though is Judy’s vocals, her voice had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up and sent a chill down my spine, but in the best way possible, they blew me away.
The lyrics roll seamlessly off her tongue whilst capturing the emotion in each and everyone of them, it’s clear a lot of thought went into them and the track has been mastered beautifully.
To finish, I was incredibly impressed, Judy could very well be a contender for the next big thing in pop, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we’re seeing her name in the charts in years to come, a brilliant track.
