Athens ushered in 2025 with an unforgettable celebration at Syntagma Square on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31.
As the clock struck midnight, Athens erupted in a breathtaking display of fireworks, casting vibrant colors across the night sky. Syntagma Square, the heart of the city, was bathed in dazzling lights, with each explosion of color reflecting off the grand buildings, including the Parliament, that surround the square.
The iconic Acropolis, perched majestically above the city, was illuminated in a surreal glow, its ancient columns standing proud against the backdrop of twinkling fireworks. The symphony of lights and sounds created a sense of awe, as both locals and visitors marveled at the beauty of Athens’ most famous landmarks.
This year, the Municipality of Athens presented an exceptional musical journey and theatrical event titled “Rooftop of Time”, created by renowned Greek rock musician and singer, Foivos Delivorias.
Delivorias, along with Natassa Bofiliou, Martha Frintzila, and Thanasis Alevras, guided the audience through different eras of Greek music, reflecting the cultural changes of the city.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas joined the artists on stage to count down the final moments of 2024.
For the first time, the city greeted the new year with silent fireworks, while hundreds of drones illuminated the sky above Syntagma Square, offering a mesmerizing performance to honor Athens, its rich heritage, and the arrival of 2025.
The evening’s festivities began at 10 pm with a musical performance by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, providing the perfect introduction to the celebrations.

Athens also rings in 2025 at Pedion tou Areos Park
Thousands of Athenians also gathered at the Christmas Village of Pedion tou Areos Park where they rang in 2025 dancing to the music of singer Christos Mastoras and the band Melisses during a special New Year’s Eve show.
Proceeds from the New Year’s concert, organized by the Region of Attica, will benefit local charities.
One of Athens’ largest parks, the Pedion tou Areos holds significant environmental and cultural value for the city and its residents. Following years of neglect, the park’s renovation became part of the region’s strategy to enhance the visual appeal and quality of green spaces, guided by sustainable practices.

As one of Athens’ largest green spaces, its renovation includes new lighting, 24-hour security, and accessibility improvements for individuals with disabilities.
In southern Athens, crowds gathered at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). Hosted by Jerome Kaloutas, the night began with a performance by Ian Stratis, known for his energetic stage presence and genre-bending music.
A spectacular show followed with a breathtaking choreography of the Center’s canal fountains, and dazzling fireworks illuminating the sky.
