A free one-day festival is coming to Toronto this weekend and it’s set to offer visitors the chance to “experience the world in one place.”
On June 21, Global Fest Canada will take place at Sankofa Square, situated in the heart of the city’s downtown core at 1 Dundas St. E.
Running from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the festival will feature authentic global cuisine, live cultural performances and interactive activities in the square. Plus, there will be football-inspired games as well.
And for those looking for last-minute plans, the celebration is also taking place on Father’s Day.
This year, the artist lineup will include live performances from Legacy Dance Co., Gary L-Padrino, Raices De Chile, Awesome Mike Magic, Raxx and more.
“Bring your friends, bring your energy, and be part of a celebration that connects culture through unforgettable experiences,” according to the team at the festival.
“From traditional performances to modern fusion acts, from street food to global fashion, we bring communities together to one inclusive, family-friendly event.”
However, Global Fest Canada isn’t the only exciting happening coming to Toronto this summer. Here’s a look at what other celebrations are on the way.
More summer festivals in Toronto
Kicking off on June 19, the Toronto Jazz Festival will run for 10 days as it transforms Yorkville and venues across the city with live music, free performances and artists from around the world.
Running until June 28, nearly 60 artists will participate in more than 100 free performances at parks, public spaces and outdoor stages throughout the Yorkville neighbourhood. For a look at this year’s free programming, check out our story here.
For three days next month, Taste of the Middle East Arabic Festival will take place at Nathan Phillips Square.
Known as Canada’s biggest celebration of Arabic culture, the festival runs July 3 to 5 and is expected to welcome more than 90,000 attendees.
Festivalgoers can expect authentic Arabic cuisine and desserts, family-friendly activities and entertainment, live music and cultural performances, along with artisan vendors and community exhibitors. There will also be interactive experiences, special guests, and World Cup themed programming.
Also happening from July 3 to 5 is Fun Philippines Toronto Food and Music Festival at Harbourfront Centre with free admission.
It will bring a high-energy showcase of Filipino food, music, dance and community spirit as a “summer favourite celebration.”
In August, one of Canada’s largest and most beloved street festivals is returning to Toronto, following a two-year hiatus.
Taste of the Danforth is back for three days from Aug. 7 to 9.
Hosted by Greektown on the Danforth Business Improvement Area (BIA), the celebration is known for its Greek food, culture and community. It is expected to draw in at least one million visitors.
“The news you’ve all been waiting for … Taste of the Danforth is back,” the BIA stated.
“Get ready for three days of incredible food, live entertainment, and vibrant community energy. We can’t wait to see you there.”
