Puscifer Reigns As Rock Music’s Cinematic Vanguards – Knotfest

Rock music provocateurs Puscifer proved one of rock music’s most visionary collectives on the Los Angeles stop of their Normal Isn’t Tour. Taking over the Greek Theatre, the open air, moonlit majesty of the iconic venue only added to the mystique of the rock music masterclass to unfolded in two acts.

Devoting much the first half of the live presentation to the dark, atmospheric tenor of Normal Isn’t, the album’s sharp societal commentary in combination with it’s more angular, rock heavy lean made for a vibe that was ominous, stylishly foreboding. Entries like “Self-Evident” and “Mantastic” emphasized the band’s more guitar-driven sound on their latest iteration and scored big in sending a charge through the open air of the Greek.

Broken up by a midway intermission, the second stretch opened with a dramatic rendition of “The Humbling River” that reemphasized the theatric quality of Puscifer. Paired with soaring performances of “Grand Canyon” from Money Shot and the madcap intensity of songs like “Conditions of My Parole,” the latter portion of the evening rolled out more Normal Isn’t essentials with “ImpetuoUs,” “Seven One” and a riveting finale of “A Public Stoning” that proved a powerful crescendo on the night.
