Giro d’Italia Gives Bulgaria Chance to Show Its Best Side, Sports Minister Says

Events such as the Giro d’Italia are major organizational challenges, but also a great opportunity for Bulgaria to show its best side, Youth and Sports Minister Encho Keryazov said in an interview for Nova TV.

Speaking live from National Assembly Square, where the third stage finished, Keryazov said Bulgarian cities and municipalities had the chance to present themselves in the best possible way.

He thanked everyone involved in organizing the race and highlighted the atmosphere created by spectators along the route. According to him, Bulgaria is also presenting itself through social media, expressing hope that most online comments and videos will be positive.

Keryazov described the event as large-scale and positive, adding that cycling brings people together and has a strong social role. He said investments should be made in events that unite society.

“Sport is a social phenomenon and investment in it should become a national strategy and policy,” Keryazov said. He added that he was certain the race had inspired many children to take up sport.

The minister said Bulgaria would continue efforts to host similar events because of their importance for the country’s image and their potential to attract more young people to sports.
