Former school employee charged with sexual conduct of child, rape

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — An indictment issued by a Monroe County grand jury last month accuses a former Greece Central School District employee, of committing child sex crimes.

Walter Getz engaged in two or more sexual acts with a child younger than 13 years old between June 1, 2024 and Dec. 13. 2025, according to the indictment, leading to a charge of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child.

The indictment also charged Getz with two counts of second-degree rape and one count of endangering the welfare of a child for incidents that happened between Dec. 14, 2025 and March 16, 2026. Both rape counts involved a child under age 15, according to the indictment, while the child endangerment charge involved a child under age 17.

A woman who said her child was abused by Getz said the families knew each other outside school. She said her child began displaying odd behaviors at home, prompting a visit to a child advocacy center that led to revelations of abuse. She said her child is now in “intense therapy.”

The school district confirmed Getz had worked in clerical roles since January 2024, first at the district office and more recently at Greece Olympia for five weeks until his separation from the district.

In a statement, the district said the allegations were not related to Getz’s employment and he did not have direct, unsupervised access to students in his roles.

Walter Getz, who had served in clerical roles since January 2024, is no longer employed by the Greece Central School District. While this individual’s role did not involve direct or unsupervised access to students, the district took immediate action upon learning of these allegations to ensure he was no longer permitted on any school campus.

Based on information provided by law enforcement, the allegations are unrelated to the individual’s former employment. As this remains a pending criminal and personnel matter, the district will provide no further comment.

The Greece Police Department declined to comment on the investigation, saying it “worked quickly to investigate the matter and present our findings to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.”

Getz’s lawyer has not responded to a request for comment.
