The new place to eat in St. George featuring Mediterranean and Greek foods just might be serving up the best gyro in the area. Spitz is a franchise that recently opened up and is named for the way of stacking and sizzling meat on a vertical spit.
Experience the Vibrant Menu at Spitz
The restaurant is bright and vibrant and the menu features wraps, bowls and salads, as well as the gyros I was interested in. I went with the original Greek gyro which comes with chicken or lamb and pork.

The meat was cooked perfectly and was not too dry like sometimes happens. There was the right balance of creamy tzatziki, onion, tomatoes, and lettuce. What made the gyro stand out was the pita.
Fresh Cooked Pita Is Exceptional
It was fresh and warm and had a slightly crispy texture that was really good. It tasted like it had just been rolled out and cooked. This made it a little better than other gyros I have tried locally. The combo comes with seasoned fries and a tasty dipping sauce.

It cost about what you expect with a fast casual restaurant where you order higher end food and seat yourself. The gyro was $12.50 and the fries and a drink cost another $6 bucks.

If the rest of the food at Spitz tastes as freshly cooked from scratch as the gyro did, I’m sure they will do well. You can find it in the new plaza area on River Rd. where the Sprouts grocery store is.
