BROOKLYN – The Greek-American moms behind Brooklyn’s Filarakia Greek Playgroup have announced that their Spring Class Registration is officially live.
In a previous interview with TNH, Kambourakis noted: “We wanted to create a space for kids to come and be immersed in the Greek language and culture, especially because not everybody has the opportunity at home to connect with their yiayia and pappou, or family members that hold the roots and the stories that make us who we are, and these stories and traditions will die with previous generations if we don’t continue them – and we’re just not going to let that happen.”
Harisis added how, “Filarakia is a way to say thank you to our ancestors, to our parents who have worked so hard, and a way to teach children about the beautiful culture that is Greek culture, and everything that it has to offer.”
Most recently, the pair shared the announcement of their new Spring Classes. In a press release, they expressed their gratitude to all who have supported them since they launched in July of 2025, and commenced classes in August.
“Thank you so much for your continued support. We truly couldn’t do this without our incredible community,” the Filarakia founders Maria Harisis and Angela Kambourakis said.
“This spring, we are looking forward to welcoming both new and returning families to an exciting Spring session.”
The new spring session will include small, thoughtfully grouped classes by age, a variety of hands-on Greek cultural experiences, music, movement, art, cooking, storytelling – and a warm, nurturing environment where children build confidence and community.

Designed to feel welcoming, playful, and meaningful, the Filarakia experience centers on connection – connecting children to their Greek culture and community.
Classes are led by the founders themselves, both certified teachers, creating a warm, safe, and engaging environment where every child feels included, valued, and excited to learn.
Packages and drop-in classes are also available.
The Spring classes will take place at The Greek School of Plato, at 670 92nd Street in Brooklyn from Friday, April 17.
The owners of the Greek Playgroup said that if anyone has questions about class placement, scheduling, or what to expect, they should not hesitate to reach out.
“Spots are limited to keep classes intentional and engaging, so we encourage families to register early,” the press release read.
“Thank you again for being part of the Filarakia community. We are so grateful for your continued trust and support, and we can’t wait to see you this Spring.”
