@momus.boy is a casual Greek restaurant on High St in Northcote!
They’re most known for their pita gyros, meat platters and generous portions but the menu also includes Greek inspired burgers, protein bowls and loaded fries.
The name comes from Greek mythology – Momus, the god of mockery and criticism who was expelled from Mount Olympus by Zeus.
Owner Kyriakos is such a nice, friendly guy, completely self taught and now three businesses in (formerly Eurobites and Nostimo) he has mastered the perfect souv.
One thing they do a little differently here is using minimal coals for the gyros so it slow cooks, which creates those delicious crispy edges while keeping the meat really moist.
✔️ Saganaki – pan fried kefalograviera with a nice crisp on the outside⭐️ Small Lamb and Chicken Mixed Gyros – I will always get mixed. They use a soft fresh pita from @mrpittabakery with juicy, crispy gyros meat. The perfect souv for me. Even the small was big so I can’t imagine the large. I almost wish they offered a mini!⭐️ Meat Platter for 2 – chicken skewers, loukaniko, Greek beef patties, mixed gyros, tzatziki, pita, fries and Greek salad. The chips stay crispy and all the meat is perfectly cooked, not dry at all. This was huge – we took half home for dinner that night and it reheated perfectly in the oven. $75 is a fair price.
✔️ Greek Salad➖ Curly Zucchini Chips – never seen these before. Glad I tried them once but they have a bit of a dry mouth feel.✔️ Pork Koupes – crisp outer with spiced bulgur wheat mince inside (not made in house).✔️ Halloumi – grilled, soft and simple but you can also opt for fried.
We were impressed by the quality of the meats, if this was closer to home i would crave it weekly! By lunchtime they were completely full and everyone walking past was stopping to say “yumm”. Always a good sign, make sure you stop by.
