What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Sing for Greece?
Samantha (Sabotage!): This feels quite different for Greece in my opinion. I like the RnB vibe that leroybroughtflowers has going on. It’s a nice chill vibe that is enjoyable to listen to but I definitely have not had it on repeat and I don’t think that it would do well in Vienna. I don’t quite know how you would stage a song like this that would make people want to notice it. The main issue is that Sing for Greece has a few big songs that are getting a lot of fan attention and “Sabotage” just disappears into the background really.
Kittens (Dark side of the Moon): When someone appears with glasses that cool and a jacket that stylish you know they’re coming with impact. This is absolutely my kind of thing – this is the kinda thing I would listen to outside of the contest and reminds me of something I could hear Bentley Robles singing. While I don’t know if it’s a winner of the contest, it’s certainly something that I would stream the heck out of.
Rory (Asteio): “Asteio” is definitely one of the best songs on offer within the Greek selection, with that perfect blend of modernity and Greek passion and power that we’ve come to see with so many of their songs. I am excited to see what his stage show will be like and I will be adding it to my playlist, but I am worried that with all the other fan favourites in the other semi, this could be lost if it makes it into the final
And what were the teams thoughts on the national final as a whole?
George: The second semi-final may be weaker than the first, but it is far from negligible. We’re seeing several strong entries, including “The Dark Side of the Moon,” “Asteio,” and “Anatello,” alongside a noticeable increase in ethnic-inspired songs compared to the first semi-final. This is the Greek sound!
Greece’s Eurovision Journey
In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.
Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Klavdia with the song “Asteromáta”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 6th place. She earned a total of 231 points, of which 105 were from the national juries and 126 were from the televoters.
