“Spirit of the East” concert showcases syrian musical heritage in Homs


Homs, Feb. 8 (SANA)   Syrian singer Hala Naqrour, joined by the Nahawand Choir, performed a traditional music concert titled “Spirit of the East” on Saturday at the Orthodox Theater in the city of Homs.

The evening, organized by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Homs in cooperation with the Our Heritage Foundation, featured a selection of songs inspired by Syrian musical traditions, highlighting the richness and depth of the country’s Eastern musical identity.

Speaking to SANA, Naqrour, who also leads the Nahawand Choir, said she was pleased to take part in the event, describing the revival of traditional songs as both an artistic and humanitarian responsibility that carries a message of love to audiences. She stressed that preserving this heritage and passing it on to younger generations is a duty for artists committed to their roots and cultural identity.

She noted that the choir, now in its third year, brings together a diverse group of musical talents from across society. The performance included integrated musical pieces that reflected the diversity and richness of Syrian heritage, adding that engaging young people with this art form is a core part of the choir’s cultural mission.

The event was attended by several religious, social and cultural figures, including Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Homs Gregorios Khoury; Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Homs, Hama and Tartous Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury; and Syriac Catholic Metropolitan of Homs, Hama and Nabk Mar Julian Yacoub Mourad.
