Greek singer Dimitris Basis is set to headline a tribute show to composer Mimis Plessas in Sydney.
The show, presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, will be held on 8 May as a tribute to the Greek musician over 100 years after his birth in 1924.
Greek Australian conductor George Ellis is leading the musical direction of the show titled ‘100 Years Mimis Plessas: A Living Tribute with Dimitris Basis’.
“Mimis Plessas is a titan of melody whose work transcends borders,” Ellis said in a press release.
“We are creating a soundscape that respects the nostalgia of his legendary film scores while bringing a fresh, cinematic energy to the City Recital Hall stage. It will be a night of pure musical magic.”
Ellis will conduct a full symphony orchestra at the event as they perform numerous musical pieces Plessas composed across his career in film, television, radio etc.
Also among the musical talents at the show will be flautist and vocalist Mary Yiakoulis.
