Greek designer Vassilis Zoulias provided the “statement” looks that helped define Emily Cooper’s whimsical, retro-infused aesthetic on Netflix.
While Emily in Paris‘ visual identity is overseen by costume designer Marylin Fitoussi and the legendary Patricia Field, one of its most essential creative voices is the Greek couturier. Zoulias, a former fashion editor for Vogue Greece with over twenty years of industry experience, brought a distinct Mediterranean flair to the streets of Paris.
His signature style, often described as “Old Hollywood glamour meets modern chic,” revolves around hyper-feminine silhouettes, structured waists, and vibrant textiles. This “bon chic” approach perfectly complemented the character of Emily (played by Lily Collins), whose wardrobe serves as a colorful bridge between American optimism and European sophistication.

Emily in Paris iconic scenes are draped in Zoulias’ creations
Several of the show’s most iconic moments are draped in Zoulias’ creations. Perhaps the most famous is the magenta “Anouk” dress, an A-line fuchsia gown that stole the spotlight during a restaurant opening scene.
Zoulias also contributed the “Vertigo” jacket, a 1960s-inspired trapeze cape with bold floral patterns, and the royal blue “Patricia” dress, a heart-shaped, one-shoulder ensemble in silk taffeta. Each piece reflects Zoulias’ obsession with mid-century elegance, a passion he traces back to his mother’s style during the 1960s.
In a recent interview, the Greek designer said that when Season 5 premiered on December 18, 2025, his phone never stopped ringing. Customers from 156 countries were inquiring about the clothes Emily Cooper was wearing. Zoulias’ collaboration with the show has done more than just dress a character; it has showcased Greek high fashion on a global stage.
Since opening his boutique, “Zoulias Old Athens,” in 2003, he has become a favorite among international stars like Gwen Stefani and Mindy Kaling. However, it is his partnership with the Emily in Paris costume department that truly solidified his status as a master of the “modern classic.”
By blending nostalgic prints with avant-garde cuts, Zoulias ensured that while Emily might be “in Paris,” her most memorable moments are unmistakably Athenian in spirit.
