The Greek entertainment industry is reeling following a criminal complaint filed against popular singer Giorgos Mazonakis. On Wednesday morning, a 22-year-old aspiring singer arrived at the Evelpidon courthouse to formally accuse the star of sexual harassment during their professional collaboration earlier this year.

The accuser, represented by high-profile attorney Alexandros Papaioannidis, alleged that the misconduct took place in March and April 2024 while both were performing at the same nightclub. Speaking to reporters outside the court, the 22-year-old stated:

“Everything I lived through and everything I saw, I have submitted to Greek Justice. I am not seeking money; my only goal is moral vindication. This is difficult and unprecedented for me, but I want the truth to come out.”

His lawyer further escalated the situation by hinting that this is only the beginning. Papaioannidis claimed that more complaints from other individuals are expected shortly, involving “even more serious offenses.”

Mazonakis: “An organized extortion plot”

Giorgos Mazonakis has met the allegations with a fierce legal counter-offensive. Through his attorney, the singer released a blistering statement claiming he is the victim of a sophisticated extortion ring orchestrated by “specific business interests.” The defense argues that the timing of the complaint, filed just hours before Mazonakis’ highly anticipated season premiere, is proof of a malicious plot to damage his career.

According to his legal team’s claims, they have already informed authorities of a specific businessman allegedly behind the extortion. The defense statement alleges that the singer was previously threatened with the “names of prison inmates,” and when those threats failed, “false witnesses” were recruited to file baseless complaints.

The case has gripped Greece, as it pits a legendary figure of the Greek pop scene against a young newcomer. With the defense claiming they have already moved legally against the alleged “masterminds” of the extortion plot, the investigation is expected to broaden beyond harassment to include claims of criminal conspiracy and blackmail.

This latest legal battle follows a traumatic chapter from earlier this year. In August 2025, the singer was unexpectedly taken into custody by police and admitted to the Dromokaiteio public psychiatric hospital under a prosecutor’s order. The order was issued following a request from close family members, including his sisters and parents, who claimed he was a danger to himself.

Mazonakis was released after five days when doctors determined he did not suffer from any mental illness requiring confinement.
