Athens is preparing to host a unique wine celebration that aims to bridge tradition with modern creativity and engage the new generation. Athens Uncorked, a full-day tasting and urban culture experience, takes place on December 14 at PLEX and seeks to redefine how we experience wine, entertainment, and gastronomy in the city.
The event brings together over 45 wineries from across Greece and integrates wine into a broader experience: street food, DJ sets, a tattoo corner, pop-up wine shops, and thematic tastings. The goal is a multi-dimensional gathering that appeals not only to wine professionals but also to anyone curious about the Greek vineyards through a contemporary, casual lens.
Evangelos Domopoulos, Co-Owner and Head Sommelier at Terroirist wine bar, told Tornos News:
“Uncorked aims to bring wine closer to the new generation, away from the formal and conventional. We integrate it with music, art, the neighborhood, and contemporary pop culture, creating a space where young and old meet.”
This approach goes beyond a typical wine exhibition, aiming to resonate with the rhythm of city life and its residents.
Participating producers come from diverse regions and schools, offering a wide range of styles and approaches. Domopoulos noted:
“Through this process, we realized we want to collaborate with people who love wine without distinctions—neither natural nor conventional. We aim for an open celebration for all, without labels.”
This philosophy reflects a desire to transcend traditional divisions in the wine industry and highlight the shared enjoyment of the product.
Public interest in wine in Athens has been steadily increasing, with the city evolving into a dynamic hub for urban wine bars, themed events, and emerging producers. The new culture of wine consumption goes beyond tasting, connecting with music, art, fashion, and urban spaces.
The Athens Uncorked initiative aspires to become an established institution with room for growth and the enrichment of its activities. Domopoulos added:
“We have many dreams and ideas for the future. We proceed step by step, with passion, and without limits.”
The event hopes to establish a new relationship between wine tradition and modern urban experience, positioning Athens as a meeting point for wine lovers eager to explore the world of wine without restrictions.
