STEEL ARCTUS’ Dreamruler – “Third Album From These Greek Power Metallers”

(No Remorse)

Man, does this label continue to uncover quality bands. Dreamruler is the third album from these Greek power metallers since 2020: high pitched screams/vocals, speedy guitars and infectious, sing-along rhythms. “Cry For Revenge” is a rousing opener, indicative of what is to follow, whole, or in part, over the remaining ten tracks.

Up next “Defender Of Steel” has a headbanging groove, even with the introduction of high-end synthesizers. Good tune! Scream and racing guitar greet falsetto “Fate Of The Feast”. Even with spoken baritone voice-over, it is the most frenetic inclusion herein.

The titular choice is a bit of old school metal. A brief acoustic interlude within the marching cadence of “Wicked Lies” which somewhat recalls modern Kamelot. Fist thrusting “Fires Of Death” gets the engines revving again, while “Riding Through The Night” features the most expressive guitar solos (albeit gone too quickly).

Although “Glory Of The Hero” opens with a grittier guitar tone, keys quickly take over. Come the chorus, some of the highest, paint peeling vocals on the album. Staccato, mid-paced “Will To Power” follows. The disc ends on a bit of a downbeat, first with the ballad “Legend Of The Warrior” and the acoustic guitar instrumental finale, “Onar”.

Good things keep coming from Hellas!
