Greece Ridge Mall records highest number of Black Friday shoppers in years

GREECE, N.Y. — The holiday shopping season is off to a busy start at the Mall at Greece Ridge. The mall recorded its highest number of Black Friday shoppers in at least five years.

The number of shoppers grew by 20% to 23% this year compared to 2021 through 2024. Wilmorite, the mall’s owner, began collecting traffic data in 2021.

The mall says the addition of new stores and new security measures has helped to draw more shoppers. In October, Boscov’s opened its 51st department store at the mall. News10NBC spoke with the CEO of the store chain, Jim Boscov, about why he chose the location, the decline of malls in the U.S., and other topics.

In the past year plus, the mall has also added Hot Pot 585, Apple Cinemas, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, Charlotte Russe, the Monroe County Office for the Aging and Veterans Service Agency, and other stores or facilities.

The mall is continuing to partner with the Greece Police Department for security. Back in December of 2024, a group of teens caused a large disruption at the mall. According to the mall, Greece Police and mall security were prepared and responded quickly because the teens planned the disruptions on social media at several malls.

A mall spokesperson said attempted thefts have declined ever since the installation of license plate readers in Greece and since retailers have cooperated to help prosecute theft when necessary.
