The tourist-sport airfield of Gjirokastër has become an attractive destination for tourists arriving in small aircraft who wish to visit Albania. Throughout this year, aviation enthusiasts have flown from Italy and Greece to explore the country’s southern region. The grass airfield has also become a center for organizing air sports activities such as free flights, parachuting, and more.
A Greek tourist stated that the airfield is in an excellent location.
“I came from Greece; it’s my first time flying to Gjirokastër. I think it’s something beautiful — this grass airfield is in a very good geographic position and suitable for small planes. From what I’ve heard, the city itself is also attractive. I hope it will be a pleasant visit,” he said.
Another tourist expressed that he has visited many places and considers this airfield a great opportunity to see Gjirokastër.
“I enjoy air tourism and have visited many countries. It’s wonderful to visit Gjirokastër by plane. I hope you’ll have more airfields like this, giving more tourists the opportunity to visit Albania,” the tourist said.
The development of air tourism is considered a good opportunity to attract visitors to the “stone city.” The Gjirokastër airfield has a history of more than a century, and its revitalization has a positive impact on promoting tourism.
