Edessa is preparing to welcome an important cultural event, which aspires to be established as an institution and to highlight musical creation on a pan-Hellenic level. The Municipality of Edessa, in collaboration with the Philoproodos Association “Alexander the Great”, is co-organizing the 1st Choral Festival, which is scheduled to take place on October 18, a date that coincides with the liberation of the city.
The event attracts the interest of both the local community and friends of choral music from all over the country, as five renowned choirs will participate: the Patras Polyphony, the Kifissia 1937 Choir, the EHCO of Komotini, the “Macedones” ensemble of Thessaloniki, as well as the Edessa Youth Choir, which will represent the local musical tradition.
The festival will be hosted in the event hall of the Pella Regional Unit (Diokitirio), with a starting time of 20:00. Admission will be free for the public, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy an evening full of music and culture, in an event that aspires to strengthen the extroversion of the city.
According to the Municipality’s plan, this initiative is part of actions that promote social and cultural life, strengthen collectivity and create conditions for local development. Such events, as it is noted, are not limited to the entertainment part but contribute substantially to the dissemination of cultural education and the cultivation of aesthetic perception, while giving the opportunity to the citizens to actively participate in local affairs.
Edessa, with its historical imprint and its unique natural landscapes, is an ideal place to host such actions. Its waterfalls, stone cobblestones and traditional mansions of the city blend harmoniously with the cultural events, creating an experience that combines culture with the authenticity of the Macedonian land. Thus, the 1st Choral Festival is not only an artistic event, but also an occasion for a comprehensive introduction to one of the most picturesque destinations in Northern Greece.
