Scotland welcomes Greece to Hampden Park on Thursday with a chance to climb to the summit of its 2026 World Cup qualifying group. This clash presents a matchup between two teams who have already met twice thus far in 2025. And despite an away win in Athens during the UEFA Nations League play-offs back in March, Scotland missed out on promotion to the competition’s top rung after a 3-0 home defeat to Greece in the return leg.
The ghosts of that game will still be haunting some of the players in Clarke’s squad, though Thursday also hands them a shot at redemption. That decisive result seven months ago marked Scotland’s first home loss to the Piratiko, and a second in succession could prove all too costly to their chances of World Cup qualification.
Torino striker Che Adams is the only Scottish player to have scored for the team through two games, with their only other finish coming courtesy of a Belarus own-goal. Greece, on the other hand, produced five different scorers against the same opponent, though Benfica frontman Vangelis Pavlidis is the team’s biggest threat up top.
